This is the standard or traditional render used on external walls. Cement render is applied in two or three coats. The base coats (or scratch coats) are scored when they are still wet to give a key for the next layer. The top coat will give you your chosen finish depending on your requirements . It is a cost affective way of improving the appearance of the property.
traditional sand and cement screeds may be directly bonded to the base, or laid unbonded onto a suitable damp proof membrane which is placed over the slab. Alternatively it may be applied as a floating finish over a layer of rigid insulation material like kingspan or celotex. This application is suitable for use with cast-in water pipes to provide underfloor heating.
Lime render applied to the external surfaces of traditionally-built stone or brick buildings. It allows the building to 'breathe' – as lime is porous, it allows for the collection and evaporation of moisture. Portland cement in contrast, an often applied render for stone or brick buildings, traps moisture behind the stonework, which can result in the erosion of the masonry. As depicted in the picture above.
